A delegation of 25 Dutch law students from Groningen were welcomed at our office on Thursday 8th May 2014 and were offered a reading on particularities of the Romanian legal system. The reading was followed by a Q&A session and informal talk-back.

The students are all members of the Simon van der Aa study association in Groningen, The Netherlands and were in a one-week study trip to Bucharest, meeting with both law professionals and law scholars to learn more about the Romanian law.

Discussion topics ranged from recent legislative and regulatory developments in Romania to analysis of legal framework before and after Romania’s accession to the European Union to more light subjects such as length of trials in the two jurisdictions, differences in procedures and bureaucratic burden on legal procedures and even the number of beds in prison cells.

The students were also interested to learn more on how a law firm functions in Romania and what are the main management issues in the legal profession.
